Piece of the Week
I’m excited to introduce a new feature to PRinSportsBlog called “Piece of the Week.” Minds out of the gutter everyone, we’ll be keeping it clean!
How this will work is every Friday I’m going to post a link to an interesting, well-written and/or news breaking sports article that I came across that week. Not necessarily one that got the most publicity. There’s no definite criteria, just something that I really enjoyed reading, but it’s not just up to me, we also have a link on the right side bar for readers to submit your nominations for “Piece of the Week” each week.
The goal is to make this a level playing field, so as articles from ESPN, Sports Illustrated and Yahoo! are welcome, we’ll try to mix in some pieces from local sites and blogs as well, as local writers are some of the most locked in reporters to the day-to-day happenings in sports.
So send me your favorite articles throughout the week and it could get picked as the “Piece of the Week.” Of course if your article gets chosen you’ll get a shout-out, so include your name, location and twitter handle (if you have one) when submitting a link.
This week the POTW is a great article on ESPN.com by Wayne Drehs. Drehs covered the triumphant story of Olympic silver medal winning swimmer Margaret Hoelzer who was abused as a young child by a friend’s dad. The article goes into how she has struggled with this her entire life and swore she’d share her story if she ever reached a platform large enough that it could help others.
Shortly after the Bejing Olympics she shared her story with the media, but as it turned out, the person who she really helped was herself. I could re-tell the entire thing, but click the link and check out Dreh’s article, it’s definitely worth the read.
